ABOUT / Dancing With Friends

Dancing With Friends was established in April of 2012. The foundation of the program was built on an idea to get together with friends new and old to exercise, socialize and share in the love of dance.

This original class is two hours long with a 30 minute lunch break. In this class we practice partner dancing as well as solo dancing. Dance styles include line dancing, hip hop, lyrical, swing, wheelchair dancing, ballroom and more!  We encourage individuality with dancer music selection and individual performances.  This fun class also works to create fun and imaginative routines that they perform at national dance events throughout the year.

The newest class that the Dancing With Friends program offers is it’s Adaptive Dance and Yoga. This fun class starts with 30 minutes of fun high energy Zumba like dancing to get the bodies moving and hearts pumping. The second half of the class consists of core building and yoga to center the body and mind. Mats or towels are encouraged for this class. Volunteers are on site to help get participants onto their mats and keep in good form.

Both classes are located at Overstreet Dance Gallery in Littleton. This location provides a huge dance floor with tons of space for wheelchairs, dancers and volunteers. Mirrors and sound system complete the setting. There is also plenty of space to sit and watch, with tables for you to sit and eat a snack or lunch with the group.

DWF FAQS / commonly asked questions

No, your child can do whatever is most comfortable/ beneficial for them. We have dancers in chairs that like to spend the whole hour on the floor mat so they can wiggle and move as much as they want, and we have dancers that would rather not get on the floor at all and stretch and dance in their chair. As well as others who like to do half and half. Volunteers are available to help with transfers to and from chairs.
The only class that has a lunch break is our Thursday Performance group from 12 to 2pm. Each dancer must provide their own lunch or snack. There is a water fountain on site but water bottles are strongly encouraged.
Yes, Yes, Yes! This is all about fun, movement and FRIENDS! The more the merrier, all abilities welcome!
Unfortunately the bathrooms at the studio are small and not the most accessible. There are larger rooms in the back that you can use to get privacy if you need. But there are no changing tables.
Depending on the care that your child will need you do not have to stay. We have lots of volunteers to help support your child through all of the dance activities. We will not be able to help with any personal care for your child, including bathroom breaks or eating and drinking.
The classes are for all ages. It’s recommended for school aged kids that can follow simple directions and stay engaged. Our day time classes usually have older adults attending where our evening and afternoon classes tend to have our younger school aged kids.
Yes, we have a large floor space for lots of chair dances as well as a ramp to get on the floor.
No, yoga is just a familiar term we use to describe the stretch and strength class. We use yoga mats, work on core strength and use yoga like poses to stretch and strengthen our bodies. We will work with our older groups to breathe and clam the mind.
No, we have drop in rates so that anyone can join our class whenever they want!
